GM Mass Air vs Speed density???????? dsmlink v3
okay you guys, im finally coming to the end of my built, but know i need to figure out witch air flow system im going to be running so i i can make a decision on the custom piping ill be setting up... so to make things short im running a stroked 2.3 block, with a PTE5857 ball bearing turbo, and fully built 1g head, with HKS 272 cams, 1000cc injectors and JMF 1g street version racing manifold....soo yeah i think that about breaks it down...so yeah i was thinking about using GM mass air, but i have the DSM link V3 and i heard you can run speed density with that...so yeah i need some input on this, what do you guys think i should go with???? oh and im thinking about using the tail Q bov.... if that makes a difference on the decision.....

Well with Speed Density you are going to need a map sensor I would recommend the omni 4 bar and the GM IAT. For best response you are going to have to tap a nipple into the SMIM as close as possible to your 4 bar. You want to keep the hose for your 4 bar to the manifold as short at possible. I have been running it and will never go back. I am pretty sure sam and some of the other guys running speed density will say the same.

I prefer SD over the GM maf, the GM maf gets pickey. Whne you start pushing the turbo beyond its limits it gets inconsistent due to the fact that it is a hot wire sensor and the the flow reading comes directly from velocity of air going over the sensor cooling it down. Downside of it, is if the turbo is pushing hot air, or IC gets heatsoaked, the air cooling down the sensor wire is hot, so the reading will be off. Also sometimes the signal comming out of the sensor fluctuates.
If your manifold doesnt have a spot for the stock MDP sensor, I wouldn't go with the omnipower map sensor. I'd use a Zietronix/AEM 3.5BAR sensor. Its good up to 36psi of boost, which is fine for MOST people.

just a couple of sensors.

You also need a GM IAT (intake air temp) sensor. You can get one at RRE or Zeitronix. I'm using the zeitronix map sensor which is threaded directly into my intake manifold and a GM IAT for my speed density setup, and it works great!

Re: GM Mass Air vs Speed density???????? dsmlink v3
Speed density is much better than a GM mass, but after running both SD and a stock Maf i have come to realize how badass a stock maf setup is. Your readings are more consistent, easier to setup, basic. Since your not the one who is going to be tuning the car then SD is a good choice for you kids who want to vent your bov. At this point i'd say stay in contact with sam if he is going to tune your car and get that thing done already.

The stock MAF really is a viable option for a lot of people. I still am using mine and my turbo was flowing 45 lbs/min and I made 442 AWHP and 425 lb-feet of torque.

452 AWHP 446 lb ft of torque e85 FTW!!
