Re: Wes's 2.3l 6-bolt build
Looking for a 40 but I don't have a chance in hell of getting one and a bolt on housing by next Saturday. Plus then the car would need to be re-tuned.

Re: Wes's 2.3l 6-bolt build
Sorry to hear you are having troubles with your pte 5031e. I have had mine on for about 5000 miles running about 24-26 lbs of boost with no problems so far. Upgrading to a HX35 soon. No restrictor and feeding oil from the OFH. Weird you had that problem so quickly. Was it a new turbo??

Yep, brand spanking new. I knew I should have paid attention to all the horror stories on Tuners.

Re: Wes's 2.3l 6-bolt build
It seems that PTE turbos suck maybe, I did run way to much oil pressure through it though so I'm sure I helped.

Re: Wes's 2.3l 6-bolt build
According to Performance Techniques my turbo died because it did not have a 360* thrust bearing and I pushed it to hard which is weird because PTE claims that it does have a 360* thrust bearing.

Re: Wes's 2.3l 6-bolt build
I have heard many stories of how PTE sucks too and I acutally bought mine about 4 years ago and put it on early last year. Have been beatin on it and just recently switched to SD e85 and up'ed boost to about 26 lbs of boost with not a hit of smoke coming out the exhaust. Unfortunately for WES looks like he got a bad one. I love my 50 trim but have a HX35 ready for my 2.4L build. Hope you get your turbo back in soon WES.

Re: Wes's 2.3l 6-bolt build
Hey Wes, were you feeding it from the OFH? That's a big no no on those journal bearing PTE's. They recommended I do OFH for my GT30 too and knew they didn't know WTF they were talking about. It's a shame it died on you. My vote goes to a Twin Scroll HX40

Re: Wes's 2.3l 6-bolt build
I will have the turbo back today. $350 for a whole new center section and wheels. I just talked to jusmx141 on Tuners and he told me not to feed it from the head but instead to use a .075" restrictor from the OFH. He said that pushing that turbo past 25 psi fed from the head will cause oil starvation to the bearing and kill it again.
