LOL I DONT NOW MUCH ON THAT STUFFF LOL BUT GOOD TOO KNOW AND FRIND THAT GOING TO DO THE SWAP FOR ME TOLD ME LOL SO I CAN PUT MY 97 TRANS ON A 96 MOTOR LOL AND I WILL GET IT

I think it should work fine. But I would see if some 420A owners know for sure.

It will work. As long as the trans is compatable with your wiring harness (as it should be lol) it will bolt up the same. However some of the sensors may have changed (not positive) just make sure all the sensors hook up when you drop the motor in. If not just swap them out for the ones on your 97 engine.
Pretty much only differnces on the 420a years is plugs/sensors
Unless your dealing with 95/96+ hah I learned that the hard way.
