My 16g Swap Now in Progress - but hit a road block

Post My 16g Swap Now in Progress - but hit a road block
So I started on my 16g swap today. Today was all about removal. I got the T25 out, along with the exhaust studs. Tomorrow is all about Install. Everything seems to be moving along fine.

I did however hit a road block in the process. The oil return line. Where it meets the oil pan. The two bolts on the pan don't have enough material on them to put a socket or wrench on them. So i'm not sure how to get them off.

I went to lowes today and got the "grabit" screw remover bits. Gonna see if that will get them out tomorrow. But if that doesn't work, any suggestions on how to get them out?

Are the heads stripped? Grind the heads off with a dremmel the remove the return line and grab them with vice grips, then use new bolts, washers and gasket to install.

or if you have small vice grips, you can try to grab it and clench it as tight as you can, to at least break it loose

they might be stripped but they are so thin that I honestly can tell. I already tried vice grips, but no luck there, the grips were wider then the heads so it kept slipping off, just like the socket.

I like the idea of dremmeling them flat and then vicing them off, but I've never done that before. Does the dremmel tool work with an electric drill, or do I need to use an air racket of some kind?

I left my return line bolted to the pan and just filed the bolt holes out on the turbo end so it would bolt to the 16G.

As far as the dremel it is it's own electric tool. It is like a drill but with more RPM and less torque put a cut off wheel in one and you are good to go.

Well i'm replacing a blown turbo. The T25 had a bit of shaft play that caused the car to smoke. So I want to make sure I put in a new line to ensure everything it lubricated properly so I don't end up with a blown 16g. I bought a punishment racing install kit, so It came with a new line anyways.

Thanks for the advice guys, I will pass by the store tomorrow and see what I can pick up to grind the bolts.

Thanks guys. I bought a dremel kit today and within about 1.5 hrs of grinding, got the return line off, and then removed the studs with vice grips. worked like a charm. :supz: :quagmire:

Of course now I have another bolt that needs work. I got 2 of the 3 O2 bolts out, and the I got the Nut removed as well. But the Bolt on the very top of the O2 housing is stripped. :bang: I don't think grinding that one out will work for me. Don't want to damage the housing, so I think i'm gonna have to take that one to machine shop.

Get as much pieces off as you can and take them to a machine shop to get it extracted.
