 knocking engine =/
So my engine started knocking back in december. Havent driven it since. i thought it was a broken valve or something but no the valves were ok. i read to check the engine oil for metal shards and if that was the case then i spun a bearing, rod knock, or a walking crank. well the oil checked out ok. no metal shrads whatsoever. so i am out of ideas as to what can be causing the knocking in my engine. can it be a busted lifter? i am out of ideas as to what to check....

Lifter noise is very common from the 4G63 and without actually hearing and seeing the engine in person it is hard to say. Jerry's car sounded pretty horrible when he snapped his crank in half. But you may have seen metal in the oil if that was the case for you.

Pull the oil pan for further inspection of the bottom end. When my 2nd motor walked no shards came out with the oil, then once i removed the pan i saw they were all stuck to the bottom of the pan.

Or cut your oil filter in half with some tin snips and see if there are metal shavings in there.

 Re: knocking engine =/
make sure its th original filter since it started knocking. You most likely will find it in there than in the pan, thats the filter doing its job.
