i use and have only used 91 in all my cars no matter what it is.
The stations are always 76 or unlimited oil cause they are the same just different names. I have used arco and it was cheaper but once i switched over to 76 back inthe days when i had my integra, believe me it made a difference. I would choose 76 over any other oil companies any day.

An explosion is just a name for a very fast burn. Which is what happens when you ignite a proper air/fuel mixture. It's simply not an uncontrolled explosion. A black cat firecracker explodes. A tube of fuel vapors with one end open and a spark plug at the other end (maybe you saw the demonstration in high school) will explode. Detonation is simply preignition... same process, just the pistons are in the wrong position, and ignition is caused normally by latent heat. So yes, there is an explosion every time the piston fires. So long as the explosion happens under the proper conditions, it does not damage the engine and is harnessed.

Far as I know, the NT do not have knock sensors. I've never seen one with a knock sensor. The spot in the block for one to be screwed in is there, but there's no wiring for it.

NTs also use high compression pistons. They ARE prone to knock with low-octane fuel. 91 does burn more slowly, but it is also more resistant to ignition period.
MOST over the counter octane boosters do very little. There are a few brands that actually do raise up to 6 actual octane (60 octane points) and a number of additives (such as xylene) will have a noticeable effect.

91 octane does resists ignition a little Better hence its rating..., never said it didnt. pointelss.

NT doe have higher compression pistons, but that is how they were designed and TUNED for. Thats how they were made to run for years for under warranty.

There are no explosions in your engine unless something is wrong... (avoiding a lecture in thermodynamics)
It is a controlled Rapid Combustion, hence the term Internal Combustion engine...
Have you ever seen a bit of gas on the floor and someone light it? ( dont do this by the way) The flames travel in a "wave" (think ripple in water)that is what happens in your engine.
Now, If something Lights another wave in another part of the cylinder... say a valve, deposits, etc... it will collide with the one from the spark plug, hence Knock... that would be more similar to an explosion.

to keep it simple

explosion = uncontrolled, bad.
Combustion = controlled, can be very good.

Also, Detonation is not Pre-ignition, those are two different phenomenon.

Thats exactly what I meant, your better off with some race fuel or toulene, xylene alcohol( works on different principles), propane etc...

The dangers and benefits as well as availability oh these are a whole different subject and post all together.

Explosion versus combustion is semantics. They're virtually synonyms. An explosion is NOT neccessarily uncontrolled, it just describes a quick, violent burn. And lighting a small fuel spill is nothing like what happens in the piston. Sure, you still get ignition kernel and growth so you could call it vaguely similar... but speeded up in the engine due to compression, which is one of the hallmarks required for an 'explosion' rather than just a fast burn, whether in a static container like TNT or firecrackers, or a dynamic environment like an engine cylinder.

Detonation is simply spontaneous ignition on a wide scale. The ONLY difference is that with detonation, the spark plug has fired, and pre-ignition, it hasn't yet. Read your own links a little more closely. They're essentially the same event.
