HC stands for HydroCarbons. Gasoline is a hydrocarbon chain. This is a formula for combution of gasoline.
CxHy + (x + (y/4))O2 -> xCO2 + (y/2)H2O

Gasoline + oxygen(from air) ->burns-> CO2 (greenhouse gas) + Water
