alright, so i was driving to work when i made a left my car just died. I pulled over and tried to start it again, i hear a clicking under the console that comes and goes. The car cranks but it wont turn on whatsoever. I did some research on dsmtuners and i keep reading about bad MPI relays and other relays or ECU, whats most likely the problem?? need help ASAP!!!

If it cranks but won't start then check to make sure you have fuel and spark. Check your fuel pump relay and fuse and also check that your spark pugs are actually sparking.

Left turn + car shut off =CRANKWALK!!

The MPI relay aka "main relay" is on the passenger side kick panel, bolted to the radio/center console braket. It turns the ECU and fuel pump on.

Ok so I came back to the car and turned the key to the on position, found the clicking relay, got the part number called glendale mitsu, they said its the main relay. What would make this relay click? Will it click when its out, or can it click because something else is out?? I wanna know before I go ahead and order the part, I called around and autozone, pep boys, kragen, don't carry them. Has anyone ever had this problem?

It clicking is it trying to complete a circuit but not being able to hole it. First off check the grounds on it. You can bypass the relay and put a jumper between the two switched pins to get the car to start.

Well if I can bypass it to get the car started I can save some cash on the tow home, but I rather pay 35 bucks intead if there's a possibility of fucking something else up. So the clicking pretty much is means that relay is bad, right?

A relay clicks when it works. You are hearing the electromagnetic switch inside. When relays make no noise at all they are dead. If the noise is exceptionally loud there could be a mechanical problem inside the relay that isn't allowing the switch arm to complete the circuit but that is unlikely. My guess is that if you hear the relay it is fine and you have some other problem.

Sam remember last time you helped me out on my car when I drove to RRE and you switched the cables on my car. Remember when I tried starting the car we herd this clicking noise comming from the center console and we found that black box you told me it was relay is this similar to his or no. Well to the OP does it take a few turns on the ignition for the car to turn on or does it make a weird clicking type of noise as well.

does anybody know what other car might have this same relay?? Would a Pic help???

just jump the relay. All a relay is, is just and electrical switch. Get a test light and figure which one is ground, which is power from the ignition switch, which is constant power and and which goes to the ECU. You need to put a jumper between constant and ecu power. Or go to a mitsu dealer and buy one. BtW do you have the one single golden relay with two circuits in it or two individual black relays.

Its one single golden one, so if I bypass it'll work without messing anything up?
