 97-99 ecu in a 2GA (95-96)
ok so my ecu gave out, my friend sold me an ecu that came out of a 97 gs-t, car would not start until my mechanic went ahead and changed the firing order, car started up FINALLY. Im still learning about these cars and its the 2nd time i hear the firing order has to be changed, actually reversed i think. Well the cars running fine but i have a CEL is this due to the different ECU?? My buddies aren't to sure , so i wanted to ask you guys.

95/96 firing order is opposite of 97-99. If you put in a 99 ECU, it came with additional smog equipment that the previous years didn't have which would make the ECU think it is malfunctioning when it really just isn't there. Its fine to drive but don't even try to get it smogged like that.

Ok good, this ecu is a 97 so I'm good there, now the check engine light is my concern, spoke to a mechanic he thinks its due to the ECU change, because I didn't have one before

97-99 had different smog stuff that your car doesn't. That's why you have the CEL's.

Well we checked for spark and fuel and I got neither with my original ECU, put the 97 on and car started up. From that I figure that it has to be the ECU. I opened it up and didn't smell anything weird or saw anything that looked to be leaking or burnt.
