 tranny/axle issue
So as some of you might know ive had the hardest time removing an axle from my trans. Well today with the help of jose, christ and an air hammer/chisel i finally got it out. On the axle some of the splines looked kind of beat up and half of the clip was gone! Im guessing it fell inside and got chewed up by the spider gears. My theory is that the gears inside the diff where the axle splines slide into were already effed up (bought this trans after mine took a crap) since i can't easily slip in the new axle. Im kind of stuck on what to do because i need the car but im afraid the same thing will happen with the new axle, what would you do? Moral of the story air chisel>stuck axle

 Re: tranny/axle issue
take the clip of the new axle and run it without the clip. You'll have the entire suspension holding the axle in there, its not gunna go anywhere. The damage to that clip was most likely caused by it being damaged or opened up to much. When you put it into the trans it opend up and next time you go to take it out, it catches and jams.

 Re: tranny/axle issue
Got a new axle seal, and axle. Time to put everything together and hopefully it doesn't leak without the clip.

 Re: tranny/axle issue
its seals up against the smooth part of the axle. That clip gets submerged in fluid in side the diff.

 Re: tranny/axle issue
i don't know about that one. their is play on the yokes, so i'm guessing running it with out the clip, will run the chance of the axel comming off. i'll make sure not to drive anywhere near you.

 Re: tranny/axle issue
Yeah there was enough slack in the joint as to have it move enough to cause a leak. Ended up replacing the clip and everything looks good so far.
