Post Basic question about dsmlink
I'm looking to buy a GSX soon and I wanted to know which years are compatible with the dsmlink. From what I've read, I gather 95, 96 are the years that work the best but I'm not exactly sure. The blogs and product description never really say "These years are what you want". I just want to make sure before I buy a car and then have to go on an ECU hunt.

I'm sure somewhere in the 2000 something posts here, you guys have answered this question, but after a few pages I decided to just ask.

Some 95s have eprom ECUs , or any 95-97 non eprom ECU can be converted. 98-99 ECUs cant be converted but its easy to swap ECUs into any 95-99 and run ecmlink. Its costs $185 to convert a non eprom ECU its would probably cost less to find a 95 Eprom.

Where do you guys recommend buying an ecmlink? I keep seeing them for sale for 550. I was wondering if anyone had a hook up. That's seems pricy for a cable and some software...

Ironically they come up for sale a lot the ecmlink forum but you already gave to own it to have access. Check dsmtuners classifieds maybe eBay but it will be the best $550 you can spend on your car.

If u don't have the money for a dsmlink why don't u try an Evo 8 ecu its half the price n I think u can run dual maps on it.. I might go that way since money is a little tight..

Post Re: Basic question about dsmlink
Well I bought my 95 gsx, but now I have new problems with my daily. The clutch and t/o bearing are going out on my gst, so I'm strapped till I can get that fixed. The clutch kit is surprisingly inexpensive, but the labor to have someone do it for me is ridiculous. I'll be back here when I start work on the gsx again. I have a freshly rebuilt 6 bolt short block I pulled from a 91 gsx so when I get down on that expect many question because again... I know nothing. I'm learning as I go. :-P

Thanks again for your help on this.

Also, if ecmlinks are always for sale on the forum and you have access to it, I'll be hitting you guys up to send me links or numbers when I have the money.
