Can anyone identify tbis blk cannister? Its right under the battery tray.It looks like a vacum line suppose to be connected there but its broken. I came across it after installing rear motor mount insert. Can anyone tell me what that black canister is and its purpose. I think im going to have to take a trip to mitsu. for a replacement.

Charcoal canister. It's part of you EVAP system. It traps vapors from your fuel tank and routes them into your intake pipe. Can't tell what part you think is broken...but most people get rid of the canister when modifying the car. Mine is intact b/c older cars (I own a '90) have to go through an EVAP pressurization test to pass SMOG (they may have lifted this requirement, I forget). Without the charcoal canister you will fail this test. Not sure what years are subject to the test though.

No EVAP still gets done. Certain places wont worry to much with it but others are pretty strict on it... Tryed smoging my bro,s 90. And the first place we went did bother to do the EVAP altough he said it was needed but not necessary so yea... But the other guy that was the first thing he was doing...

I took mine out just be sure to block off the lines on your throttle body, EGR, and intake pipe, just for smog issues but believe it or not I passed smog without it and on E85 and if you do keep
It you should have pic of vacuum diagram on the inside of your hood.

Me personally don't give a f_ck about smog issues especially cause we're the only state that has these emissions so strick and everyone else on the planet is polituting the ozone.....
Think about it Mexico Arizona and Oregon don't do emissions why should we $$$$$$$$$$$$$
