Electrical Problem
Well I thought it might have been my battery because it was spewing out fluid so I changed it but the same issue is happening. DSMlink is reading an extremely high voltage. Head lights don't turn on, radio starts tripping. when i turn the car off the head lights come on radio plays fine. Could this be the alternator??

Re: Electrical Problem
Sounds like a bad regulator in the alternator

Re: Electrical Problem
kinda thought so. Fuckin pep boy alternators. Our alternators suck. Need to convert to the saturn alternator but don't know if thats any better reliability wise. I guess im pulling it out and getting a new one. Good thing theres a free lifetime replacement

Re: Electrical Problem
was it hard to do. I see its doing some grinding on the alt and some on the block. I think some wiring and thats it right??

Re: Electrical Problem
well i had what called a "self exicting regulator" installed into mine and that elimantes all the wireing. you have to grind a little on the alt and a little on that mounting point on the engine but if you have a 4" angle grinder it takes about 15min if u take you time

Re: Electrical Problem
the reason DSM alternators sucks is because they are in a shitty pot. Right under the power steering pump and right next to the o2 housing. Heat softens up the solder on the circuits in the alternator. And power steering fluid from leaky pumps kill them 90% of the time.

Re: Electrical Problem
yeah the pepboys alternators suck, i've had my fair share of f-ups with them but i just warranty them ..its a bitch to swap them out "depending on the turbo set up"..also you can get them to check it before you swap it out for the new one with the warranty. but if your engine is out of the car ,perfect time to swap in the saturn alternator, more space.
