Yeah, because we have no idea what he's done, hasn't done, when it happens or why. Answers to those questions will help us narrow it down.
Engine braking is when you leave it in gear and clutch engaged to help slow the car down, rather than only using the brakes.
Do you mean that it's in gear with the clutch disengaged? That's not engine braking. If you're leaving the clutch engaged below 1000rpm AND braking still, that's just bad driving. Of course you'll stall the car if you come to a complete stop with the clutch still engaged and the car in gear. Isn't an automatic (well, I ASSUME it isn't an automatic).
Also, on top of the stuff I'd asked about before, have you checked your ISC to make sure it's not toasted? If it can't hold at a given idle-step, it'll either go one too high (and idle surge) or one too low (and stall out, or idle surge as well). Can you keep it from stalling if you keep your foot on the gas?
PS- If you're going to buy the factory service manuals on CD-ROM, be careful; a lot of the 1G FSM CDs do NOT include Volume 3, which covers the AWD system and differences of a GSX as compared to a GS-T/GS/RS/Base.
