Post 1g motor mount vs 2g
Hey guys, just looking around getting ideas for what route I want to take the Galant and noticed a difference in the motor mount on the driverside on the 1g's compared to the 2gs... 1g being like an L shape around the timing cover. Also, noticed a few without the L. Is it common to swap over to a 2g mount or do people modify the stock mount by cutting off the L portion. Figure if it's a free modification and cleans things up by not looking so clunky I might go about doing it. That is of course as long as it doesn't effect the integrity of the mount.

Common swap on the Wbody's is to ditch the passenger side dogbone motor mount/coil pack bracket for one off an H-body (ie, Bonneville, Park Avenue), which doesn't have the dogbone mount portion and simply holds the coil packs. Downside to this, is under high horsepower applications the driverside mount (cast aluminum, passenger side being cast iron)) will snap causing the motor to fall back into the firewall. Usually taking the DP and axles out in the process.

both Dustin and Hugo have that "L" part of that motor mount cut off and they are running low 11's. The 2g mount wont work but it actually only has 3 bolts.

i actually just cut that mount for Irv when i helped him with his timing. it looks much better cut

Ok killer. I know i'll never see 11s (atleast don't intend to anytime soon haha) so I think i'm golden. and yes it does clean it up nicely.

Yeah, people just cut the mount. The front part that it bolts to in front of the timing cover really serves no purpose and just takes up space.

Gratuitous engine bay shot of my car with the front section of mount removed, and also trimmed up the power steering bracket to free up more space. Makes getting to that corner exhaust manifold bolt a LOT easier...

Nope, it's not necessary. I just cut mine and trimmed the bracket behind the power steering pump.

Care to touch a little more on trimming back the power steering bracket? Don't have the car in front of me ATM and pics always make things easier haha

You can actually buy 9" cones with a 4" inlet from most Autozones and Pepboys nowadays. That's where I picked up mine for my old GTP

Back tot he topic at hand, just so i'm clear. Purpose of cutting back the ps bracket is to get rid of the studs for the old L bracket and to get a bit more clearance for the manifold bolt.

Oh I know, but am I on the right page as far as why you'd trim it?
