damage caused by a $7 oring
summary of what happened: oil seal failed and spilled out all the oil on the freeway (check the rambling thread for full story)
so i fired up the car today...car sits pretty quiet at idle but makes a tapping noise at low RPMs and disappears around 2-3k...i've looked and looked for automatic crankwalk symptoms but cant find any besides crank play (which it doesnt seem to have). i found someones post on tuners about his engine being starved for oil and he was able to get by with just replacing his bearings. does this sound plausible in my situation?
ps i took it around for a few minutes and it seems to pull just like it always has. there is no performance loss whatsoever.

Re: damage caused by a $7 oring
Bad rod bearings/main bearings would increment in sound as the rpm rises. Sounds like you might just have some horrible lifter tick.

Re: damage caused by a $7 oring
He has 3g revised lifters so im doubting that is the problem. Maybe you have slight rod knock like me lol. Same thing I can hear but once I go past 2k or 3 or sometimes 7k I cant hear it.

Re: damage caused by a $7 oring
Wally speaks the truth I have revised lifters...like when I turned the car on the noise sounded like the exhaust leak I had than it went away but as soon as I moved the car I noticed the tapping

Re: damage caused by a $7 oring
Is crankwalk out of the question? Like I've looked at crankwalk videos and all the cars are noisey at idle mine is pretty quiet (early cranwalk stage?). Main concer is making it tMOD how likely is it for my car to make it lol

Slim chance that it is crankwalk and even if it is the car should still run fine. Crankwalk is a problem when your car shuts off during left turns.

Re: damage caused by a $7 oring
Ok so slim chance its crankwalk...its not the lifters...its not an exhaust leak...what's left? What's the most likely thing to happen from my car crapping all its oil out and it being ran for no less than a minute after? (There is damage but what could the damage be)...everyone is crusing not time attacking it to mod right? Because I don't want to be left out on the road alone if my car takes a bigger dump on me
Should I even risk taking it to mod?

Re: damage caused by a $7 oring
Read the post wrong so if its crankwalk I shouldn't really be worried about the car getting more ef'd up as long as it doesn't turn off on left turns?

Re: damage caused by a $7 oring
My guess without hearing it is you probably kicked the crap out of your main and/or rod bearings. Driving it to MOD is up to you. It might not even be that it is hard to say without seeing and hearing the car. You could drop your oil pan and look at your bearings to be sure.
And yeah, my crank play has been out of spec for about 3 years and car still runs fine.

Re: damage caused by a $7 oring
sound like rod bearings, As rpm climb, so does oil pressure, creating a cushion between the crank and rod journals, making hte knock less audible. But the damage is done, don't drive it and get the bearings inspected and replaced.

Re: damage caused by a $7 oring
How much more damage can I cause driving it if it is bearings?...I don't fear crankwalk since I've heard or other people driving with it for a long time.

Re: damage caused by a $7 oring
The rod bearings are probably damaged and they will get worse. If a bearing fails completely the little pieces of metal from it will take out your whole engine and maybe even the head too.
