Well, that was my first thought when I found a stream of leaking oil from the back of my car when I pulled up to my job. I noticed the smell only when I got off the freeway and entered the side streets of my job. I shut off the engine right when I saw the oil slick. The low oil light didn't go off and I checked the dip stick and it showed a quarter above the low line. First thing I did was try to wipe off all the oil from the housing and filter to check for obvious cracks or holes. Nothing. I twisted the filter to check if it was loose but it wasn't that. The only other option was to start the car and check where the leak was coming from. I start the engine and look at the oil filter.....there was a fine spray of oil coming out of a hole that can be barely seen because the FRAM filter grip was disguising it. Somehow a piece of metal lodged itself between my alternator wires and the filter....causing it to ground on the filters metal housing.....cutting a hole into it. I was all smiles after that.....I needed an oil change anyways. |

Been using Fram for over 10 years with no problems. Also used STP, Puralator, & Supertech, (Walmart!!) with no ill effect. I just go for whatever's cheap & convinient. |

I use Purolator Pure One or Mobile 1 sometimes if I cant get the Purolator. I have read that Fram is not good for turbo / supercharged engines. |

EVO8 filter here, only reason is we have it by the millions, cheap, OEM quality, and only one that fits between the housing and my Elephant genitalia o2 housing. |
