Looking for powder coating hookup
I got introduced to this site by Sam at RRE. I was there last night and he tuned my 2G Spyder to 265 HP (I asked him to stay conservative)...
I'm searching for a shop with a good price on powder coating my stock 2G wheels (non chrome) to black. Possibly somewhere that will do the unmount/mounting of the tires. I imagine no tire shop would like to keep my car on a jack for the day or days while the job gets done somewhere else. Or am I supposed to leave the car on jack stands at home?

I'm betting you have to remove the wheels from the car and then the tires from the rims and just take the rims in for treatment.

Re: Looking for powder coating hookup
I think I'm just looking for something that doesn't exist - a shop that would take the car, and do everything from 1st step to last for a good price. I should save my dough and paint them myself...It's the same amount of work, especially if you consider driving around with the wheels to get unmounted, etc etc.

Just do it all yourself i do all my rims & they come out to powdercoating standards. Jusst put vaseline grease o watever on your tires sand the rims to no gloss at all...1st of all clean them out with disgreaser....After sanding everything from back to front. get primer & primer them up...then get watever color you wants a few cans so u can coat them like 3x each.

Re: Looking for powder coating hookup
powder coating ruins your center cap a little. your better off painting the rims with car paint or can.

Re: Looking for powder coating hookup
I decided to paint them. I have spent a couple hours today cleaning the crap out of the wheels. One question...Can I use the green Scotch Brite to "sand" the wheel down? I don't see how sand paper is going to get into the small edges (i tried today). Also do I sand/scotch brite when wet, or dry?

Re: Looking for powder coating hookup
Okay I gave up after an hour and a half. Removing the old paint off the wheel is way too much work. I'm going to either attempt to redo this with a dremel tool or just shell out $200-300 to get them powder coated. I'd get new wheels but my tires are brand new right now.
