so i was warming up my car to go test out the new mbc setup.I went in the house to grab my laptop, came back out and noticed a funny smell from my car. so i hopped in and noticed my voltage was a little lower than normal. turned on parking lights and voltage dropped around 12.6v or so i also noticed with the extra light from my markers smoke emitting from the gap around my hood! wtf? quickly killed the car and checked for melted wires couldnt find any. so i start it back up and look to see where smoke was coming from and it appears to be coming from the alternator (new one for me) plus the alternator was wayy hot, hotter than my manifold-spilled a lil beer on it and it cooked!. im lost i just changed that alternator, it has less than 1500 mi on it. i did buy it from autozone |

Take it back and get it tested. Lifetime warranty. Don't even ask what's wrong, just get a new one. |

DSMs are notorious for having alternators crap out, esp the reman ones from auto parts stores. +1 on the warranty. Top two causes of alternator failure in DSMs: 1) Power steering fluid leaks from the pump onto the alternator 2) Having no lower heatshield to cover O2 housing cooks the alternator Let us know how it turns out! |

I was having some serious alternator bad luck. mine went out last year, and had to change it 4 times with different alternators in 2 weeks because I kept getting crappy remans. |

ya i think its a combo of crappy reman and heat from my dp.i got the alt pulled off tonight, finish up in the morning. also picked up some exhaust wrap for the dp, hopefully it lasts longer than a month this time. I also made them test the alt infront of me after i exchanged it so i know its good going in |

Blame it on the regulators not being replaced in the remans at your local autozone/pepboys/kragen autoparts stores. Everything else is pretty much switched except for the crappy mitsu regulators. But lifetime warranty FTW! |
