Post 1g 2g motor swap .
Ok so tomorrow I'm most likely picking up a 1g Gsx. It has a motor and tranny but the motor has a spun rod bearing. I'm thinking about taking out the motor to rebuild it with forged internals and I plan on making it a stroker. Now, for the question. I have a 2g Gsx 7 bolt with 90k original miles. I want to get the feel of driving a 1g for the mean time. What do I need to swap my 7bolt into the 1g? Or can just swap it like that?

Just saw you post this on sgvdsm lol. It wouldn't be a straight swap, as some sensors are different. Personally I would sell that 7bolt and pick up a 6bolt to build up.

you cant put the 2g block in a 1g. The 1g block doesn't have any place for the front & rear motor mounts. On a 1g the front & rear motor mounts are on the block on 2g they are on the trans.

Lol who are you?! All I know is that a 1g has cam angle sensors and 2gs don't. Well I'm keeping my 2g awd my daily and making the 1g my "racecar" but I REALLY want to drive the 1g as childish as that sounds haha.

Thanks bro, I called frank and he told me that. Kinda upsets me that I won't be able to drive the 1g till I build the motor.

No, they both have cam angle sensors, on a 1g the cam angle sensor and crank angle sensor are 1 unit that goes on the head on the opposite side of the cam from the cam gear. On a 2g the cam and crank angle sensors are separate. The 2g crank sensor is on the front of the block and the cam angle sensors is behind the intake cam gear on 95-96 or on the other side like a 1g on 97-99. The CAS would not be an issue at all in swapping a 2g motor into a 1g, it would be easier than putting a 6bolt in a 2g because you wouldn't have to rewire anything you would just use the 1g cas that's already in the car. Your problem would be the motor mounts.

Ahh I guess I misinformed myself on the CAS. Someone was giving me information about it but it was for a 2ga. Since now I know that it's different from a 2gb

So how exactly are the motor mount difference?

On a 1g 3 of the motor mounts are on the block, 1 on the trans, on a 2g there are three on the trans and 1 on the block. If you if put a 2g block in a 1g you would only have places for 2 motor mounts and the engine would flop around and break stuff.

Orrr you can not buy the 1g, sell your 2g and buy a bicycle! No motor swap necessary!
