Post replacing valve springs with motor assembled
so since i toasted my motor, im picking up an already built motor from a friend its a built bottom end with a stock valved train, and i want to out my upgraded valve springs and retainers on but id like to do it without taking the head off.

the motor has only 5k miles on it since it was built and id like to leave it together so i dont have to replace the HG.

so does anyone have experiance doing this? and does anyone have the tools to do this?

i was thinking to get this http://www.euroexportinc.com/store/tool ... essor.html

it seems a bit time consuming but i have heard of others using it and it works good, anyone have one?

thoughts, ideas?

You can use that tool and get it done with the head still on the motor. You just need to use compressed air in the cylinder you're working on so the valves don't drop. I almost bought that tool a couple weeks ago when I was taking apart my head. It's pretty legit and the price isn't too bad at all.

This is what I use when we do Valve spring installs with motors still in the car. Ive done the job in 30 minutes or so ( not counting cam removal and install )

I have the air hold tool but I won't be in CA for a few weeks. I bought mine at Napa.

You can get a regular old pressure tester and remove the gauge from one end and the needle valve from the other end and use that.

im gonna try the air compressor thing, the motor is out of the car so if s valve does drop i will just grab it through the intake or exhaust port or worst case pull the head

We've dont duals with that tool no problem. Just gotta give it a good whack with a legit hammer. Not one of those little bitch framing hammers, talking 2lb+ hammer.

http://www.amazon.com/Black-Rhino-2lb-D ... dge+hammer

A little vaseline to hold the keepers in the retainers, place the retainers on the spring, push down a bit, centered (tip/trick) make sure its centered, then WHACK. Push it a few times to make sure its completely seated then on the the next one. That tool is bad ass eh?
