flywheel or starter?
Ok so I bought a six bolt from someone I'm thinking its got an awd flywheel. So I tried to put my old fwd starter and all it did was spin. So can I just change the starter to reach and grab the awd flywheels teeth?

Re: flywheel or starter?
Both starters are the same. You have to change the flywheel.

Re: flywheel or starter?
Why won't they work if they're the same starter? Does the bell housing pull the starter too far away from the teeth ?

Re: flywheel or starter?
The starters are the same. The AWD flywheel is smaller than the FWD and the position where the starter bolts up to the trans is different on each trans to match up with the flywheel.

The starter plate on the back of the block is different too.

Re: flywheel or starter?
I guess I could all this is just a pain in the ass when you work alone , but it has to be done. I'd need an impact wrench wouldn't I for those bolts for the flywheel ?

Re: flywheel or starter?
Is a an electric impact weaker than an air impact? And one off topic question. Is it normal for my engine to be hard to turn over on a fresh rebuild like before it even cranks cause I have the block and pistons in yet it is extremely hard to turn.

Re: flywheel or starter?
Shouldn't be too hard to turn without the head there is no compression, are you turning it with the trans installed?

Re: flywheel or starter?
Make sure its not in gear that could make it harder to turn, try it when you remove the trans.
