so my starter grinds but it still starts like... start, start, grind, start, start, grind, if you get what i mean. so i changed it but it does the same thing. when i pulled the old one off i looked like the started wasnt engauging fully, the starter gear was only going about half way and the sides of the gear has mild chipping but the flywheel is not chipped or worn on the tops of the teeth. any ideas? im a bit stumped |

Are you sure the starter plate is the right one? |

That is weird that you had to enlarge a hole. With my 6-bolt I used my 7-bolt starter plate with my 99 trans and everything lined up just fine. |

Did you use the starter plate from the 6 bolt Adam? That makes sense that Wes's would work. I always heard you needed to use the starter plate that matches your bell housing, not the block. |

You gotta use the starter plate from your 7bolt awd. No grinding or enlarging should be necessay at all. If you had to do that then you used the wrong plate. |

$21 from the dealer for an awd 2g manual "cylinder block plate" (starter plate). fwd plate should be similarly priced. Just make sure to match the starter plate with your trans. So if you have a 2g fwd manual trans. your plate should be for that exact trans. gl. |
