I believe the fwd fifth gear is taller (not sure the %) than the awd and if i recall correctly it is the only gear that is interchangeable between both trans. Might be another option to consider as well.

Re: Wes's Car finally acting like a DSM.
The 10% taller setup allowed me to cruise at 80mph spinning 3000 RPM. My turbo was spooled up right at 4000 so cruising at 80 that much below spool might be bogging down my engine more than I want to .

Huge mother F'ing props to Performance Technique in San Bernardino. Even though the turbo death is certainly caused by my car they are eating some of the cost and doing this rebuild below their cost.

Sam is the man and he helped me get the trans together last night. I officially hate cleaning RTV off of trans case parts. Here is a great pic of the mad scientist himself. And here is the trans back in San Dimas so close but so far.

Re: Wes's Car finally acting like a DSM.
So I had a little bit of time this morning and I felt extra manly so I installed the trans by myself with just a regular jack in under two hours.
I still have a lot of things to do on the car but at least the transmission is back on and bolted into place.

Re: Wes's Car finally acting like a DSM.
Just throwing up an update, there is a chance I may get the car back on the road this Monday. Pretty much depends on if I can find someone to weld my 5/8" line fitting to my valve cover.
I am going to continue running the 50 trim as no one wanted to buy it for what I was willing to sell it for but this time I am using an FP filter on the line with a 0.100 restrictor built into the filter, the pressure sending unit will be after the restrictor and wired to my warning box to alert me of oil pressure that is to low or to high, I have ported the relief valve in the OFH, and Instead of the stock valve cover line venting to atmosphere I will have a 5/8" line running to an exhaust scavenging fitting in my down pipe.
Hopefully all of that will enable me to actually get some good use out of this turbo and actually get my car on a track for drag and autocross before I leave for OCS in July.
And as always anyone that wants to hang out on Monday is more than welcome to.

Re: Wes's Car finally acting like a DSM.
I got my valve cover ready to weld tonight. Here are some pictures. Stock vent line before I did anything. Here is the aluminum block I machined. I think I am going to cut some more away from the inlet side inside the valve cover now that I can see how deep into the cover it is going to sit. Here is the valve cover with the section cut away. Here is the block sitting in its new home. Here is a comparison of the vent size from stock to the new one I'm putting in. And here is the new fitting eating the old fitting. I really hope all this helps keep the crank case pressure down.

That looks great Wes. Nice work. I definitely like that block idea rather than just welding a bung or nipple onto it.
