Re: Wes's Car finally acting like a DSM.
I just got off the phone with Custom Turbo Rebuilding (the shop by RRE) and got some good news. I'm glad I brought the turbo in because they opened it up and found metal in it form the engine death. Bearings were scored from it and what not.
Best part is that it is getting rebuilt for the low low price of $100. I'm pretty psyched on that.

Re: Wes's Car finally acting like a DSM.
Millennium got back to me today after they tore down the 2.3 and checked it out. As expected they will be using the block I got from Frank as the old one is no good for .020" over pistons. The crank and connecting rods survived though so that is good news.
For some reason the intake valves were wearing down where they contacted the valve guides. Greg is looking into that to see if it has anything to do with running on e85. But anyway it sucks that I need a new set of intake valves and to have the valve job redone. But at least the head itself is still good since there was a good amount of money put into the port work on it.
And the real good news is that as long as a new set of bearings can be ordered up quick (ACL has some issues and I need to run their chamfered bearings with the Eagle crank) my engine should be done late next week or early the next.

Re: Wes's Car finally acting like a DSM.
Welcome home from OCS!!! I bet those 3 months were killing you knowing that the DSM was back in SoCal with the engine in its trunk. From the sound of it the thing is going to be broke in on the dyno and ready to rock by the 4th?

Re: Wes's Car finally acting like a DSM.
I'm hoping to have it ready by the 4th but the way things seem to go you never know. Early next week will tell if all the parts I need are available and can be obtained quickly.

Re: Wes's Car finally acting like a DSM.
Damn Greg playing with my emotions. Everything is ready except the bearings as was anticipated. He called me and told me that he couldn't get the ACL H series bearings right away but he could get the T series which are lower quality. Pretty much was like if you want the lower quality you can pick your engine up Wednesday. The temptation was great but I'm holding out for quality parts, no need to cut corners to rush things along.

Re: Wes's Car finally acting like a DSM.
Good news for me. The bearings have been found and I will be picking up my engine and head tomorrow afternoon. With Thanksgiving here I won't really have time to work on anything until Sunday. But I will be spending all day Sunday putting my Evo brakes on the car and hopefully at least getting the engine assembled and ready to drop in.
I am so damn anxious to have a GSX again it is killing me. I really miss driving this car.

Looks like you're on track to get'er ready for the 4th. If not there's always January 8th.

Re: Wes's Car finally acting like a DSM.
January is more likely. I think my wife may be working on the 4th so I will be parenting. Also I don't want to rush things to much to get it ready for then. I really can't afford for this to mess up again. Including new pistons, gaskets, turbo rebuild, and all the machine work this was pretty much a $2k set back for the car.

Re: Wes's Car finally acting like a DSM.
Woot, going to get some work done on the car tomorrow. Not as much as I want since I don't have an oil pump or water pump gasket. But at least the Evo brakes will be going on and I will probably torque the head to the block.
If you got time, and want to drink a beer come on by for a bit. I should be there from around noonish on into the evening.
